The Bandstand Marathon is one of the largest closing events of the London 2012 Festival and the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic events.  Having held the Olympic Inspire Mark since its creation in 2008, the event has grown year on year and in 2012 we aim to have over 500 events across the UK, working with 15,000 amateur and community musicians, attracting audiences of over 150,000.

Superact is looking for a highly motivated and energetic Project Manager to coordinate the 2012 event and ensure its widespread UK success.  Working alongside a team of Project Assistants the Project Manager will oversee the delivery team and have responsibility for the delivery, administration and marketing of the event.  The Project Manager will be expected to work closely with Superact’s PR and Marketing Team to ensure maximum press coverage for the event.

Role and Responsibilities

To deliver at least 500 Bandstand Marathon concerts on Sunday 9^th September 2012.

The key elements of the project delivery are:

• Booking of bandstands and bands (liaising with Local Authorities and partner organisations)
• Arranging licensing and other legal requirements for the event
• Organising volunteer coverage where necessary
• Planning, organisation and delivery of regional training events for participating bands and authorities
• Attendance at local, regional and national events to promote the event
• Coordination of the design, printing and distribution of publicity materials (posters, flyers, banners)
• Maintenance and development of the Bandstand Marathon website
• Managing the team assigned to the project
• Production of a post event project evaluation

Essential Skills

We are looking for a Project Manager who can demonstrate:

·         Successful project management on a national scale

·         Experience of working closely with local authorities

·         Good financial planning and reporting

·         Competent and confident public speaking

·         Ability to deliver training on event management

·         Large scale administration and good knowledge of database management

·         Good team management skills to ensure successful project delivery

Desirable Skills

We would like to find a project manager who can demonstrate:

·         Good telephone manner to communicate with participating local authorities and musicians

·         Understanding of how to work with artists/ musicians on a large scale event

·         Good website management knowledge and competent use of social media such as Twitter and Facebook

·         Ability to work calmly and patiently with a number of stakeholders and to cope well under pressure

·         Interest in the heritage of Bandstands and commitment to supporting the UK’s amateur and community musicians

·         Good understanding of the Cultural Olympiad and the London 2012 Festival

Superact is an innovative arts organisation that uses the creative process to improve the health and wellbeing of communities and in doing so maximises the life chances of individuals. Superact is looking for a new Programmes Manager with flair, imagination and an eye for new commercial opportunities. Working in a supportive environment this new role would work to develop existing links, improve financial performance and identify and grow new revenue streams. 

Superact has recently developed a new Edexcel[1] BTEC qualification in partnership with Exeter University called Supporting Employability and Personal Effectiveness (SEPE). The Level 1 Award uses the arts to improve the soft skills of learners through team work and group tasks.  The qualification is particularly targeted at people with few prior qualifications or those looking to return to education or work.  Superact are looking to further develop the markets for delivery of this award, along with the development of sub-centres for delivery and training of trainers to deliver the qualification.  This would be the first area of work for the new postholder, although we are always looking to develop other existing and new areas of work.  Thus the longer term plan would be to recruit someone to manage the SEPE work, freeing up the post holder to then develop other areas.

Role and Responsibilities

·         Securing new customers (schools, colleges, justice settings etc.) and managing delivery of the SEPE qualification by Superact trained artists

·         Development of a network of Sub-Centres for the delivery of the SEPE qualification across the Uk (and potentially overseas)

·         Marketing and programming of training courses for new trainers wishing to deliver the SEPE qualification

·         Marketing and distribution of Superact SEPE training manual

·         Development of new markets for the SEPE qualification e.g. gaining contracts for statutory provision

·         Handle interface between Edexcel and Superact, managing all Edexcel administration functions alongside Superact Admin Support Team

·         Extension of the Superact Edexcel Centre to enable further qualifications to be delivered by Superact

·         Attendance at national and international conferences to promote the work of Superact and the SEPE qualification

·         Development and presentation of papers on the qualification

·         Work alongside Superact Area leads to  develop potential markets through existing networks

Targets

Directly run courses:

·         10 SEPE courses in year 1

·         20 SEPE courses in year 2

·         30 SEPE courses from year 3 onwards

Sub-Centres

·         Develop UK network over two years with 10 centres in place by the end of year 1

·         Complete UK network (c20) in place by end of year 2

·         Overseas expansion from year 3 onwards

Training courses

·         5 SEPE Training Courses in year 1

·         9 SEPE Training Courses in year 2

·         12 SEPE Training Courses from year 3 onwards

Financial targets to be agreed, with potential for performance related bonus.

Essential Skills

We are looking for a Programmes Manager who can demonstrate:

·         Experience of working with learners/participants in hard to reach/challenging communities

·         Good knowledge of the third sector and the education sector

·         Experience in Educational and Social marketing

·         Experience in the field of commercial training

·         Examples of development of new products/ services in the creative sector

·         Ability to build mutually beneficial relationships with partner organisations

·         Good financial management and reporting

·         Competent and confident public speaking

·         Effective bid writing

Desirable Skills

We would like to find a project manager who can demonstrate:

·         Interest in the wider use of the arts in education

·         Knowledge of individual and community development

·         Positive ‘can do’ and self-starter attitude

·         Ability to work as part of a team and to manage others in the team

·         Knowledge of Further Education and Higher Education sector

Knowledge of Justice sector and education systems within the sector

This exhibition gathers scenes of vast and intricate spaces that are lost in everyday life. The paintings are based on how places are perceived and understood. With memories and dreams integrated too, the art combines many levels of observation. It is not without its contrasts of which the bright colours fight against the harsh hessian background. This creates an awkward textured surface that is asking for more than a visual assessment.

Teaching History of Art in Minchinhamption for Workers Education Association

WEA is still looking for a History of Art Tutor as this subject is extremely popular for next year and, more urgently, for next term at Minchinhampton where the tutor has pulled out because of a permanent job offer.  This course is Art on Show and will be an introduction to a range of artists, movements, theme etc., currently being exhibited, nationally or regionally, exploring why they are of topical interest as subjects of exhibition and how they are displayed to their audiences. So it is fairly open in terms of which galleries could be used.

Support for artists to work in schools
Artist's Bursary Scheme

Between January and March 2012, Cinderford Artspace is co-hosting a pilot project to
support artists who wish to develop their skills to work in schools. This work is being
funded by Create Gloucestershire, and the project is running in two areas of the County:
the Forest of Dean and Stroud.

Artists will be able to apply to Cinderford Artspace for a bursary to support their
development and increase their ability to work effectively in schools. Guidelines are
included in the application form document. Artists are able to apply for up to £750 and may
choose to request funding for anything that they feel will enable them to progress in this
area (for example equipment/materials/training or mentoring).

Application is in writing via a simple application form (please find attached) which will then be considered at a
panel meeting of lead professionals. Panel meetings take place in January, February and
March. Artists are expected to complete an evaluation of their involvement in this scheme
by early April.  As this project is to benefit Forest of Dean schools, artists must work in the Forest of Dean.

Management

15 days over a six month period. Regular days will not be specified, the position requires a flexible approach co-ordinated to the needs of the Collective and individual initiatives.

Fee

The fee is £200 per day plus travel and other expenses up to the value of £50. Craftspace is not VAT registered and therefore the stated fee must be inclusive of VAT. The Associate Artist may use Craftspace’s office facilities including a hot desk.

Frith Youth Centre, Bussage, Stroud - Job Opportunity

Frith Youth Centre at Bussage, Stroud, is currently looking for a regular youth worker for its Thursday night Senior club.  We are particularly keen to find someone who can organise and facilitate art-based projects.  Sessions are from 7pm to 8.45ish, with a quarter of an hour each side for setting up and clearing away.  The youngsters who attend are between 12 and 16, noisy but fairly well behaved.  Previous projects have included graffiti workshops, film and photography, jewellery making, glass fusing, scrap sculture and so on.

We pay £20 per session and there is a small budget for materials.  There are currently 2 youth workers plus volunteers in place and the new youth worker would be part of the team, working with the others to devise a termly programme of events.  We are looking for someone who is extremely reliable, calm and who is interested in working with this age group.  Experience is not as essential as enthusiasm.  A CRB check will be done by us, at our expense.  Previous youth workers have been all ages and from all sorts of backgrounds, including those who want to extend their CV's to go into teaching and youth work. Own transport is necessary as the centre is not easily accessible by public transport.

There is an opportunity for youth workers to apply for grant funding for specific projects, especially during the holiday periods, at a professional rate.
