The opening Carnival procession for the Site Festival is fast approaching.

The Site Festival is Strouds Festival for contemporary arts and involves hundreds of artists in many varied and diverse locations including ninety artist open studios. www.sitefestival.org.uk

There are two big announcements concerning carnival this year; the first is that we have the Goods Shed as a venue for after school and weekend workshops in music, dance and costume, for three weeks leading up to the final event. This will also be the venue for the final event on the day from 1pm onwards with stalls and live music from the Uplifter, Hot Feet, Laerie Fairies and Le Vamos. The next big announcement is that the "Battle for the Winds'  Olympiad wind sculpture and performance will be unveiled on the day too.

‘Battle For The Winds’ (www.battleforthewinds.com) is an Arts Council England funded Cultural Olympiad project that is being rolled out over the coming year in the South West of England. Gloucestershire is involved as one of the seven counties who will be participating in the opening spectacular of the London 2012 sailing events in Weymouth. A giant ‘wind machine’ sculpture will represent Gloucestershire on the promenade in Weymouth in July, accompanied by Gloucestershire musicians and street performers. We wish to launch this initiative here in Gloucestershire by delivering a large-scale event, to a public audience, in the Brunel Goodshed in Stroud, Glos at 2pm Sat April 28th 2012.

Lots of young people are already involved in preparations for this event including Stroud Art College who successfully secured the commission for the construction of the Wind Machine and also many of Gloucestershire Youth Theatre plus students from many local schools.

Hope to see you there on the day!
