Free Inclusion Training on including disabled children and young people

We are delighted to let you know about the remaining  Inclusion Needs You training sessions that are available up to March this year.
This is free high quality training on how to include disabled children and young people in what you do.
It is run by Active Impact as part of our contracted work with Gloucestershire County Council. Use the attachment to book now and secure your place!

Designed for everyone working with children and young people outside of school – in playschemes, youth groups, activity groups, after school clubs, nurseries and childminding, or in sports and arts sessions.
  • ‘Really insightful and thought-provoking’
  • ‘Most valuable training I have been on’
  • ‘Beautifully structured, charismatically delivered, fun and positive’
  • ‘Trainers were completely informed and up to date and passionate’
  • ‘Much more confident. I now feel empowered!’

Session 1 - Introduction to Inclusion  - co-delivered by Philip Douch (Active Impact Development Manager and  national writer and trainer in inclusion) and a disabled colleague, Alison John, who is an experienced national  trainer in disability and inclusion issues. It is great fun and looks at what we mean by inclusion and disability; the attitudes that we bring to working with disabled children; thinking creatively - or making ‘reasonable adjustments’ in legal terms. We also involve a parent of a disabled child in delivering part of the day.

Session 2 - Let’s All Play –This is an endorsed level 2 playwork course delivered by Philip Douch. It is very hands-on with lots of fun games for everyone to have a go at and then to reflect on – Are they inclusive? How would we make them inclusive? What are the practicalities of including everyone?

Session 3 - Autism awareness – Delivered by Tina Park from National Autistic Society. Gives insights into children with autistic spectrum disorders and offers guidance on responding helpfully to the individual ways in which the condition manifests itself.
Session 4 - Communication – Delivered by Helen Few of Gloucestershire’s Total Communication Project. Lots of signs to learn and practise, and principles about communicating with children who may not use or understand speech effectively.

The booking form is attached. Please book early for as many sessions as you would like to attend.

If you received a letter from Deborah Lawson of the Early Years Childhood Team entitled:  ‘Free training – Inclusion Needs You’ – please book on to the sessions she is offering rather than these.

Best wishes,
Jane
